Our hemicellulose streams are rich in Xylose and Organic acids which can be used for the manufacture of low-calorie sweeteners such as Xylitol and Erythritol and as a feedstock for fermentation processes which could produce a variety of high value biobased products. Sappi has developed and patented an innovative technology for producing Xylose rich streams.

How we make Xylose
The hemicellulose extracted during the manufacture of our Verve dissolving pulp provides a rich Xylose source – the intermediate chemical required to produce xylitol and other valuable biobased products. Sappi’s Xylose is wood-based and has certified sustainability and forest stewardship credentials.
Sappi has developed and patented unique technology to produce a process-ready xylose feedstock.
