Basic Handyman Training Programme – Ngodwana Skills Centre
The Basic Handyman Training Programme is a comprehensive 12-week course designed to equip participants with essential vocational skills, including basic welding techniques.
Please note: This is a training opportunity, and completion of the programme does not guarantee employment with Sappi or its contractors.
Programme Highlights:
- Life Skills & Small Business Basics: In addition to hands-on training, all participants will receive guidance on basic life skills and how to run a small business.
- Certificate of Attendance: Upon successful completion, candidates will receive a certificate. While the programme is not accredited, it is of high quality and widely respected.
- Post-Training Opportunities: Previous graduates have gone on to start small businesses, join apprenticeship programmes, or gain employment with Sappi and local contractors.
- Eligibility for Apprenticeships: Successful participants will be eligible to apply for Sappi’s apprentice bridging programme and entry-level positions within the company.
Costs & Funding:
- No application fee is required.
- Sappi covers the full cost of the training, including daily meals valued at R30,000 per participant, and provides all necessary equipment and PPE.
Eligibility Criteria:
To apply, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Have completed at least Grade 10.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
- Be able to read, understand, and speak English (the training is conducted in English).
- Have a valid email address and cell phone number.
- Never have attended the Basic Handyman Training Programme before.
- Reside in the local community around Sappi Ngodwana Mill (proof of residence required).
- Not currently be employed or studying.

- Proof of residence (dated within the last 3 months).
