Procurement Specialist: ESD

We’re on the lookout for an experienced Procurement Specialist: ESD, the role will be based at our Ngodwana Mill, Mpumalanga. The incumbents will support the Procurement Manager: ESD in the day to day operation of the ESD unit in ensuring sustainable program implementation in line with ESD strategic objectives and governance framework. To also ensure that ESD beneficiaries (SMEs) comply with Sappi’s Health and Safety Regulations and other relevant legislative requirements.

As a Procurement Specialist: ESD you will be responsible for:

• Comply to all SHEQ policies, procedures, best practices and work instructions. Comply to ISO9001 (Quality Management System), ISO14001 (Environmental Management Standards), ISO50001 (Energy Management System) and OHSAS18001 (Health and Safety Management System) for procurement in the mill / forests.
• Effectively communicate new regulations and procedures as and when required to contractor's.
• Conduct business evaluation and assessments to determine SME capacity and competency and the level of readiness to do business with Sappi
• Point out key developmental gaps and recommend interventions for SME capacity building program.
• Coordinate implementation of the ESD program at operational level and provide progress update.
• Foster stakeholder’s relationships with vendors and internal and external customers to achieve operational business objectives.
• Establish and maintain a co-operative relationship with the mill/forest's departments and escalate the root cause of a specific matter between the team and department.
• Monitor and evaluate vendor performance in relation to the service level agreements (SLA’s) or quality, delivery and environment and provide feedback to the mill stakeholders and report non-conformances.
• Maintain master data, oversee Vendor Master process and ensure compliance to BBB-EE status and B-BBEE audit/verification requirements.
• Implement and manage the SME development program prior and post the contracting process.
• Identify and report any risks in the supply chain to the ESD Manager Operations and implement controls to monitor the risks. Develop response plan where necessary to mitigate risk.
• Design/implement trackers to manage & measure spend on ESD for SME Development and monitor on a monthly basis.
• Provide training, guidance and coaching to sub-ordinates and/or departmental colleagues.
• Coach and guide end-users on the Regional Procurement Policy to ensure mill compliance to the policy.
• Work with the regional team on the execution of new ESD initiatives for the mill/forests by driving the local stakeholder engagement and overseeing the local implementation.
• Implement the bid process for mill-specific ESD projects in consultation with the regional ESD team.
• Ensure regular critical reporting for project supplies and deliveries on shut’s or projects, in line with the ESD plan, are communicated to the ESD Procurement Manager: Operations and Project Manager.

What are we looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in commercial, engineering or legal, or equivalent experience
• 5 Years procurement experience in a manufacturing or heavy industry environment
• Supervisory experience will be advantageous
• Must be experienced in Enterprise Development/Business Management/Procurement Analysis and Transformation -B-BBEE
