We’re on the lookout for an experienced HW Checker to assists the HW Operator to ensure the smooth running of the Chipper, addressing all non-conformances, breakdowns, problem solving from the log receiving deck conveyor to the Hard Wood chip pile.
As a HW Checker, you will be responsible for:
Plant Operations
- Assist with the start-up and shutdown of the plant.
- Ensure the plant operates at the required rate and meets quality specifications.
- Monitor mud levels in the clarifier tank.
- Inspect and clean the Disk Scalper dump chute as needed.
- Collect chip samples for testing in accordance with the BOP.
- Regularly check auxiliary equipment during shifts.
- Assist the Operator with knife changes when required.
- Perform routine inspections, clean, and report defects in the following areas:
- Slab Area
- Bark Conveyors
- Storm Water Drains
- Handle late or non-routine tasks as necessary.
- Remove blockages and foreign materials from the Chipper and conveyor systems.
- Identify abnormal or emergency plant conditions and take corrective action per the BOP.
- Isolate plant components as required (Authorized Operator).
- Participate in housekeeping activities with a focus on the assigned area of responsibility.
Communication
- Report abnormal conditions and breakdowns to the Shift Superintendent.
- Liaise with Maintenance teams regarding required work.
- Maintain regular communication with the HW Operator regarding plant operations.
SHEQ Compliance
- Achieve and maintain BBS targets.
- Report unsafe conditions to the HW Operator and Shift Superintendent.
- Adhere to all SHEQ requirements for the role.
- Minimize environmental impact by ensuring stormwater drains are clear of chips and bark.
- Maintain 5S standards in the area of responsibility.
Resource Utilization
- Coach and train new employees in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Act in a higher position when required, once properly licensed.
- Pursue self-development through a Personal Development Plan (PDP).
Administration
- Create and manage notifications in SAP (PM Operator).
- Complete the daily logbook and check sheets.
- Ensure the work permit book is completed as necessary.
- Record all relevant plant deviations and notifications.
Requirements:
- Matric with Maths and Science.
- N3 Pulp & Paper will be advantages .
- Experience in a Production Environment will be advantages.
